The Oliver Peoples Cary Grant Sun is a round acetate sunglass in Carob brown with Regal Blue crystal lenses, drawn from the frame Cary Grant wore in Hitchcock's North by Northwest in 1959. It isn't a loose homage — the design holds the original's proportions, including the bold front thickness and the keyhole bridge that dates the style to the period.

Carob is a deep neutral brown, warmer than black and less busy than tortoise, which is close to what reads on screen in the film. Against it, the Regal Blue lens is the departure: a saturated blue rather than the grey or green a period-correct pair would have carried, which is what keeps the frame from looking like costume.

The lens is crystal — glass rather than resin. Glass holds optical clarity over years of wear and resists surface scratching far better than a plastic lens, at the cost of some weight. In a frame this size the trade is worth making.

Fit

50mm eye, 22mm bridge, 145mm temple, with a 44mm lens height. A medium lens front with standard face coverage — it covers an average portion of the face rather than sitting oversized. The 22mm bridge is unusually wide, which is characteristic of the era the frame comes from and suits a flatter or lower nose bridge. Universal fit, so it accommodates most face shapes. Also made in a 48mm eye for narrower faces.
